1st Annual Alumni Day Banquet a Success! - December 30, 2006The Alumni Day festivities began at 10 AM in the morning at the NHS gym with a come-from-behind win for Newington in a matchup against South Windsor. After the match, everyone adjourned to the center courtyard at Newington High School, where a tree was planted and a memorial was dedicated to the founder of Newington Wrestling - Coach Richard Hastings. Words of remembrance were read by various members of the NWAA, and about 60 people were in attendance to pay their respects. A stone from ther Hastings property in Hampton, CT was used for the memorial. (See photos) Dirt from the property was also brought from the land and added to the memorial's site beneath the tree. The crowd adjourned and made their way to the Shriners' Banquet Facility on the Berlin Turnpike where approximately 60 in attendance celebrated the 1st Annual Alumni Day Banquet from 1-4pm. Many of the alumni from the the past were present, along with family and friends. Lot's of great door prizes were awarded, as well as great food and drink.
